ALBERT ALIS
1961 . Mataró (Barcelona) Spain

At the present time Albert Alís’s work offers an unusual vision of the world and of painting, making use of space, suggesting with shapes, and evoking with colours, always with sobriety. The painter understands his work as a conversation. When all has been said, a word more –a stroke more- distortions the message.
The principal merit in the painting of Albert Alís lies in the silences and the framework of tensions it generates; the artist is aware of the limits of his language and chooses to keep silent when the essential is already made clear. This is a principle characteristic to abstract painting but which Alís incorporates in a remotely figurative scenery. In any case, the real merits of Alís also rest on a complex game of smudges of colour and expressive lines in perpetual and balanced tension; his town is made of insinuations, of notes which yields protagonism to the spectator who must complete the proposed adventure. Urban insinuations, therefore, materialized from a palette which resists placing limits on its possibilities, on enclosing the world it represents.
